בנם השישי של יעקב, בן בלהה, שבירכו יעקב ״נפתלי אַיָּלָה שלוחה הנֹתן אמרי שפר״, קל ומהיר כאיילה. מהירותו הצילה את כבוד המשפחה בשעה קשה: כשעמדו לקבור את יעקב במערת המכפלה ועשו עיכב בטענה שהמערה שלו, נדרש שטר המכירה שנשאר במצרים, ונפתלי רץ למצרים ובחזרה כדי להביאו. חז״ל מנו אותו בין הזריזים שבשבטים, שליח נאמן וקל רגליים.
Yaakov's sixth son, born to Bilhah, whom Yaakov blessed as "a hind let loose who gives goodly words," swift and light as a deer. That swiftness once rescued the family's honor: when they came to bury Yaakov in the Cave of Machpela and Esav blocked them, claiming the plot was his, the deed of sale was needed from Egypt, and Naftali ran to Egypt and back to fetch it. The sages counted him among the fleetest of the tribes, a faithful and nimble messenger.
