אחיינו של אברהם, שהלך עמו מאור כשדים אך בחר לבסוף לשבת בכיכר הירדן, בערי סדום, מקום עשיר במים ורע במעשים. אף בתוך סדום האכזרית שמר לוט על מידה אחת שספג בבית אברהם, הכנסת אורחים: כשבאו המלאכים בערב הוא אפה להם מצות והגן עליהם בנפשו מפני אנשי העיר. בזכות מידה זו ובזכות אברהם ניצל מן ההפכה, ומבנותיו יצאו לימים עמון ומואב, ומהם רות המואבייה.
