Shabbat (the Sabbath)

The seventh day, on which the Creator rested from the work of creation; for the Jewish people it is a day of rest and holiness. From sunset on Friday until nightfall on Saturday, observant Jews refrain from thirty-nine categories of creative work, and mark the day with festive meals, prayer and study. Shabbat is the heart of Jewish identity, a weekly sign of the bond between God and His people.
