The Sanhedrin

The great court of seventy-one sages that sat in the Chamber of Hewn Stone in the Temple, the supreme authority of Torah: from it instruction went out to all Israel; it sanctified the months, judged capital cases and appointed kings. After the destruction it wandered, Yavneh, Usha, Tzipori, Tiberias, until ordination ceased.
