The Weekly Torah Portion

The Torah, the Five Books of Moses, is divided into fifty-four portions (parshiot), and each week one portion is read aloud in the synagogue from a Torah scroll, until the whole cycle is completed on Simchat Torah and begun again. In this way the entire people, everywhere in the world, studies the same passage in the same week, and sermons and study revolve around it.
