כשרות

מערכת דיני התורה הקובעת אילו מאכלים מותרים ליהודי ואיך להכינם: בעלי חיים מסוימים בלבד, שחיטה כהלכה, והפרדה בין בשר לחלב. ׳כשר׳ פירושו ראוי ומותר. שמירת הכשרות מלווה את היהודי בכל סעודה, ומקדשת את מעשה האכילה היומיומי.

Kashrut (keeping kosher)

The body of Torah law that defines which foods a Jew may eat and how they must be prepared: only certain animals, ritual slaughter, and the separation of meat from dairy. 'Kosher' means fit and permitted. Keeping kosher accompanies a Jew at every meal, sanctifying the ordinary act of eating.
